I’ll never forget my senior high school prom. The music was Usher. The corsage was pretty. The hair was swept to the side. The dress was inspired by 10 Things I Hate About You. And of course, there was the mandatory stairway picture for all 12 parents... But most of all I remember the hours I spent trying to get my makeup perfect.
While the blue eyeshadow to match the dress and the sticky glossy lips were “in” during my high school years, today’s prom look is more hollywood glam than 90’s pop star (I mean, we DID look good though).
This past weekend we had the joy of working with the gorgeous Lilly to get her ready for HER prom here in Austin, Texas. And much to our luck, her mom, Annie, is the most WONDERFUL photographer at Sleeping Owl Photography (all photos credit to her! You know, the ones that obviously are done by a professional).
Lilly’s Prom Look focused on muted burgundy and brown eyeshadows diffused on her lids to make her hazel eyes really pop and platinum hair take center stage.
She was a throwback to Marilyn Monroe in her silver sparkled dress and red-orange lipstick that made for a youthful take on the classic red lip. It was the perfect combination of bold and classic to compliment her dress and her natural beauty.
So what are our biggest tips as you prepare for prom? Day old hair is great for your hair stylist to be able to get some volume and spray things in place for the right hold. When it comes to makeup we of course recommend leaving that to the pros (at $65 for a full face, you can’t pass up on Make The Rest Up, we have appointments available Friday and Saturday!). If you do take this on at home, stick with timeless and classic (and skip the blue eyeshadow. Trust me, 10 years from now you’ll thank me). And of course, be careful! Prom is a wonderful time and one of the most memorable experience you'll have from high school but take care of yourself and your friends!
Happy prom and be safe, beautiful #badassbossladies!
