Women's Equality Day is on Saturday! We want to celebrate our right to vote with 25% off ANY order on www.maketherestup.com all weekend!
August 26th was chosen to commemorate the day in 1920 when Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed the proclamation granting American women the right to vote. Since then, women have exercised that right like the bosses they are by turning out to vote even more than men! During the tumulteous ups and downs that many minorities of all types face in this country, we should stand tall and proud of the genertions before us who fought to make sure that women’s voices are heard.
I personally wanted to know what else I could do to honor the day and not just take it forgranted. Luckily the National Women’s History Project has a whole list of amazing ideas of how you (and perhaps your girlfriends) can spend the day!
A few of their ideas include:
Downloading their annual Women’s Equality Day Brochure to distribute to at your event or in your local library, school or any other community gathering.
Make sure all your libraries both school and community have a copy of Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Suffrage Movement.
Sign the Women’s Equality Day petition to lobby for Women’s Equality Day, August 26th, to be elevated as a federal holiday.
Join the Women’s History Alliance who will be working over the next 4 years to have Women’s Equality Day 2020 declared a federal holiday.
Of course, in addition to education and creating a space for conversation online, we want to continue to donate 10% of all our proceeds to women’s charities that benefit literacy and entrepreneurship, so that equality continues to be truly, equal!
